The next chapter of Alfredo Morelos’ Rangers story will become clearer in the coming week after talks with Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Both parties will set expectations and desires for the weeks and months ahead with the Colombian’s contract status at the forefront of the discussion.

Following disciplinary action imposed on the Rangers striker due to concerns with his attitude and fitness, the club announced publicly that talks on a new deal were on hold. It was more about the message but after the initial action during the week, now is the time to work toward an amicable resolution.

As above, following today’s comprehensive win over Ross County, GvB stated that they will sit down together this week. Morelos has seemingly responded in the right way after a very public flogging which included the loss of his place in the squad for the crucial Champions League qualifier in Eindhoven.

Rangers secured group stage football without the Colombian international and with it, a vindication of the manager’s decision but Gio was quick to include his banished player although he was left to watch on from Glasgow.

As things stand, Morelos will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a new club in January and clubs will be watching the situation. Already, Sevilla has been linked but everything depends on what the player himself wants to do going forward and how he sees his own future.

El Bufalo has been very good for Rangers but the club has certainly stood by him before. Going forward, you get the impression of a last chance and a maxed out sense of goodwill so it will be very interesting to see just what emerges.

A move away from Ibrox can’t be ruled out, in January or at the end of the season or could Morelos sign an extension with the aim of a Champions League impact at Ibrox? It could even be both!
