In what was an almost perfect afternoon on the pitch for Gio van Bronckhorst and Rangers, a late injury scare for Tom Lawrence looked  like it could sour the 4-0 victory over Ross County.

A brace from Antonio Colak came after John Lundstram’s opener then the scoring was rounded off by Steven Davis on a day when Rangers really strutted their stuff with a sense of confidence and authority. They were a joy to watch at times and the four goal margin was the least that was deserved.

Right in the last seconds of the game, Lawrence attempted to retrieve the ball in a contest with a County player only to fall awkwardly. For a couple of minutes afterwards, the Welshman was holding his knee on the turf with two Rangers physios paying close attention.

It was one of those situations where you can’t help thinking pessimistically but he walked off the pitch and then thankfully the manager played down any concerns in the post-match press conference.

With that rotation for Tuesday in mind, expect several changes to Rangers team for the starting line-up against Queen of the South in the League Cup.

Key players need rested ahead of the trip to Parkhead next weekend for different reasons, whilst others need to play. The likes of Allan McGregor, Ridvan Yilmaz, Leon King, Steven Davis, Rabbi Matondo and Fashion Jnr will all come into contention for the visit of the Doonhamers.

Lawrence was likely to be one of the players earmarked for a rest but this is even more likely after his knock today. Expect to hear more from Gio on his squad plan at Monday’s press call.
