Rangers look to have secured someone to fill the gap left by Calvin Bassey’s departure t Ajax and, if the reports are accurate, it would appear that Ross Wilson has gone back to a previous target.
Before he moved to Liverpool, in what was a surprising move at the time, Preston’s Ben Davies was linked with a move to Glasgow, both sides of the Old Firm said to be interested.
We were looking at a pre-contract move, however, with an injury crisis and a significantly bigger budget, Jurgen Klopp brought the 25-year old in as cover, and that’s all he did because he never made any impact on the first-team.
A move for Davies had been rubbished by some in Scotland, however, English based journalists, and specifically, Liverpool correspondents are now claiming that a £4million deal is almost finalised.

With doubts over Filip Helander’s fitness and John Souttar not having the best medical file, bringing in someone like Davies who has great availability makes a lot of sense, given how he plays, it would also allow Connor Goldson to have the odd week off.
The other benefit to signing the former Preston man is that he is unlikely to get called up for England so would be free of the rigours of international football, there is also every chance that Davies and Goldson could be our centre-half pairing for the next 4-5 years in what would be a very solid platform to build a team on – watch this space.
