Rangers have agreed a fee with PAOK Salonika for Antonio Colak, according to a report by Sky Sports, however, contrary to reports coming out of Greece this morning, the fee is said to be around £1.8million.

Interestingly, for all that a fee has been agreed, it doesn’t mean that the Greeks have actually let their striker discuss personal terms.

“Rangers have agreed a fee of around £1.8m with PAOK for Antonio Colak, but the Greek club have yet to decide if they will let the striker move to Ibrox.

“Colak has been capped three times for Croatia and scored a double as the Swedish side knocked Rangers out of the Champions League at the third qualifying stage last summer.

“He scored 19 goals for Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side before returning to PAOK in January where he found his options limited.”

Colak is said to be keen to make the move to Rangers and, hopefully, things should move a lot quicker now that a fee has been agreed, getting him in before the first pre-season friendlies would be perfect in terms of preparation for the season kicking off.

I’m not quite sure what is meant by “the club have yet to decide if they will let the striker move” though when an agreement has been reached in terms of the 28-year old’s valuation, I can only think that they don’t want to officially sign off on any deal until the have a replacement themselves.

Personally, I’m excited by this deal, I don’t think he’s coming in as a back-up or as third choice, and those saying he has just come off the back of a bad season are neglecting the fact that Malmo’s season runs in the calendar year, it was only when he returned to PAOK that his game time was limited, we’ve seen it before ourselves when a player is no longer part of the manager’s plans.

For £1.8m, it is a great deal for the club and finally gives us more reliable options in attack and more importantly, more goals.
