Rangers pursuit of Antonio Colak is one that seemed to burst onto the back pages before settling down without any further insight into how close the deal is to being done.

Reports from Greece suggested that an initial bid of around £1.8million had been made for the 28-year old Croatian international and that PAOK Salonika were holding out for something closer to £2.5m.

The player himself appears be getting on with business as normal though, reporting for pre-season training with his side in the Netherlands, however, he might not be there for long if The Daily Record’s claim that Colak is hoping for a fee to be a greed so that he can make the move:

“Rangers target Antonio Colak has travelled out to PAOK’s pre-season camp – with the Greek side adamant that he won’t be going anywhere unless their £2.6m asking price is met.

“POAK is aware that Colak is keen on a move to Scotland with the potential of Champions League football and The Light Blues have already opened talks with the club. Rangers have been told that the Croatian international won’t be sold for anything less than three millions Euros.”

Colak has 148 career goals at a rate of nearly one every two games across a career that has seen him play in half of Europe, it’s not often you see a textbook journeyman career where the player has actually done well at most of his clubs.

Rangers aren’t far away in terms of what is being offered and what PAOK are wanting and, even at £2.6m, it is a deal that is good value for money given his pedigree and the position that he plays.

With Alfredo Morelos not yet fully fit and Kemar Roofe also finishing the season on the treatment couch, we could really do with a fit and good quality striker being available to lead the line in case either of them don’t make it, firing us to the Champions League group stages wouldn’t be a bad way to kick off a Rangers career and instantly pay back the transfer fee either.
