Rangers should go and pay the money now in order to make Nicolas Raskin a Rangers player immediately with reports today suggesting that a pre-contract deal is effectively agreed.

It has been claimed that terms and medical checks have all progressed for a satisfactory conclusion to the extent that Rangers execs are now in a strong position to reach a settlement with Standard Liege in order to make a deal happen in the current transfer window.

Following the arrival of Todd Cantwell yesterday, the club needs to put down the money – as long as Standard are sensible – to bring Raskin in as soon as possible to allow Michael Beale to press on with his own Rangers revamp.

As relayed earlier by Vital Rangers’ Gavin Kelly, a 4.5 year contract has been reported with the deal said to be imminent but the crucial detail within the update from Sacha Tavolieri is the fee that Standard are said to be holding out for, to release the player this month.

Talk of €2.5 is fanciful given that his exisiting contract in Liege has less than six months remaining. Tavolieri stated that €1 million could well be the deal maker now and that is what needs to happen. There is a glaring need for reinforcement and quality in the Rangers midfield just now and an arrival such as this can help to raise the standards in others.

As can be seen from the highlights reel above, Raskin looks comfortable in the ‘6’ and ‘8’ type roles. He is adept at taking a ball on the turn from defence and spraying it forward to get the play going. He also excels as a ‘destroyer’, stealing the ball and recycling possession quickly. Yes, anyone can look good in a five minute YouTube clip but Raskin has plenty of experience and ability at just 21 years of age. He can be a signing now and an asset for the future.

Go, get the deal done.

My worry is we are going to penny pinch and lose out on him getting him this window where he can get his feet in the door and being ready for next season knowing how the games played or not over here
