An intriguing link has emerged claiming that Rangers are closing in on a deal for the signing of Standard Liege’s Nicolas Raskin.

The update comes from Sacha Tavolieri of RMC Sport, where he covers the Juplier Pro League in Belgium as well as matters in neighbouring France.

U21 Red Devil Raskin has been previously linked with Ibrox over the last couple of windows but recent reports stated that some of the big guns in Ligue 1 were ready to snap up the midfielder who turns 22 next month.

Last month, as featured in the Herald, it was widely reported amongst the Scottish press that France would be the next destination for the player who has refused to sign a new deal at the Stade de Sclessin:

“Marseille and Toulouse have both made enquiries about signing him now for a cut-price fee now rather than waiting to get him for nothing in the summer.”

“Nantes and Reims have also shown interest, but he could be persuaded to go to Toulouse because they are now managed by former Nottingham Forest manager Philippe Montanier, who worked with Raskin when he was in charge of Standard Liege two years ago.”

Positive

It remains to be seen if this move would be an immediate one, or a pre-contract with a view to getting a deal done in the coming days to allow an instant switch to Glasgow but most importantly, it appears to be a positive signal that things are moving in the right direction.

Raskin’s profile is the type that Rangers should be aiming for, with the goal of mutual progress and a healthy sell-on profit further down the line. At 21, he has already amassed over 75 appearances in the Belgian top flight as well as experience gained from Europa League exposure.

This is definitely one to watch.
