With domestic football all but finished across Europe, many players will be sitting enjoying some well earned time off whilst others, like Ryan Gauld, will be sitting by the phone, before deciding on his next move.

It’s well publicised with Vital Rangers being one of the first to break the news – that the Farense midfielder is out of contract this summer and that the clauses in his deal that were previously believed to be inserted had never been agreed.

The Scotland youth cap, deemed the “biggest free transfer“, almost single handedly saved his club from relegation but it wasn’t to be, he did however finish runner-up as one of the league’s players of the year, another indication of the quality he has shown this season and form that has attracted the attentions of Southampton and Benfica, according to The Daily Record.

It’s no surprise that Gauld already has “several offers on the table” given how good he has been over the last couple of seasons with a consistent run of games and it would be hoped that one of those is from Rangers, a player who can be utilised in midfield or a front three as well as being classed as a home grown player is a rarity in Scotland, especially one of his quality.

Who finished as Rangers top goal scorer this season?

The way that Steven Gerrard’s side dominates possession and plays a fast moving, passing game – or Bealeball – is perfectly suited to Gauld’s game, Vital Rangers has long been an admirer, and if he doesn’t sign for us, as long as he doesn’t end up in the east end of Glasgow, we’ll continue to watch from afar.
