Rangers will be looking to add strength across the squad this summer without spending a fortune and one former target who could fit that profile is Bosnian international Muhamed Besic.

There is no doubt that midfield will be a priority, Ryan Jack’s rehabilitation won’t be rushed, Steven Davis and Scott Arfield shouldn’t be expected to play 50 or more games and both Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo are attracting attention from admiring suitors.

Besic has experience of over 100 games between the Premier League and the Championship as well as 45-caps for his country, playing in the Scottish Premiership will be more than within his capabilities, as a defensive midfielder known for his combative qualities the physicality of football north of the border would also be right up his street.

At 28-years old he is in his peak years and should be playing regular football, the prospect of competing in the Champions League could also be enough to persuade him that a potential move to Reading should be ignored.

Who finished as Rangers top goal scorer this season?

There are more glamorous options but one of the key reasons we were so successful in the league and in Europe this season was our strength in depth and having players that can be trusted to come into the team and do a job, it would also be a bit of a coup to get a player of Besic’s quality without having to pay a transfer fee, saving money for other targets is something that is likely to get Ross Wilson excited.

Vital Rangers has suggested the Bosnian as a potential option before, it’s as low risk as you can get without sacrificing quality, the sort of deal that makes sense both on and off the pitch.
