He couldn’t could he?

Picture the scene. The 2022 World Cup has been and gone and Rangers face an entertaining trip to face Peterhead in the third round of the Scottish Cup, with Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos given the day off – Kemar Roofe is injured – Giovanni van Bronckhorst turns to his back-up striker to fire us into the third round.

Taking the place of Cedric Itten isn’t an easy task but Cristiano Ronaldo might just be up to it, if reports are to be believed.

Now, Jermain Defoe was one thing, and Aaron Ramsey was another, but come on, Ronaldo, really?!

Manchester based journalist, Peter Harding, has claimed that Rangers have enquired about one of the game’s greatest of all time who currently finds himself on the outside looking in at Old Trafford, having to make do with a place on the bench in their recent win over Liverpool.

There are so many reasons as to why this is a non-starter but the fact that a journalist has even had the brass neck to suggest this and click “send” shows how far we have come in recent years – it’s a far cry from having Fran Sandaza and Kevin Kyle leading the line anyway, although I’m not even sure he would get a game for us just now, the Portugal legend is probably better off staying where he is, at a Europa League outfit, I doubt that he’s good enough for a Champions League side nowadays.
