Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is never far from the headlines and despite his improvement on a discipline front in the 2019/20 campaign, the 23-year-old Colombian international still isn’t far from a red card or two.
In rather predictable fashion, Sunday’s Scottish Premiership clash with Motherwell saw our striker get on the scoresheet, but he also picked up two yellow cards and saw himself sent from the pitch with his first red card of the year.
😭😭😭😭 Alfredo Morelos exclu pour célébration outrancière de son but cet après-midi à Motherwell. Il s’agissait de son deuxième carton jaune. Bras d’honneur ou pas bras d’honneur ? 😅 #RangersFC https://t.co/dOpt5sxGnh

Manager Steven Gerrard certainly had no complaints about the cards – and the second in particular, although he wasn’t that complimentary about referee Don Robertson, but fans who took to social media to react to the incident weren’t quite as philosophical as our gaffer, again feeling there was an element of unfairness in the decisions that go against Morelos when you look at some of the antics from players of a certain other clubs.
Even if the second card was right, they certainly have a point.

Would it have been a yellow if it wasn't Morelos who made the gesture? Well, put it this way, if he hadn't have done it there would have been umpteen replays of it. It feels like he is punished for being box-office at times.

A daft booking for Morelos, but the rules of the game have to applied consistently to all teams & players.
They are clearly not, and once again the SFA need called out on it. pic.twitter.com/ifxENc5TKU

If we are sending folk off for that, we should expect to see a red card at every single game where there’s a goal scored. Sure, he plays on the edge at times but he was (literally) on the right side of the line here. I expect Robertson will feel a bit silly when he sees it back.

Morelos has took abuse all game from they Motherwell fans and when he scores he quite rightly gives them a two’s up back. They dish it out then act all offended. I’m sure when brown and lemon make the same gestures it’s just banter

The Decision...
It's A Card, Move On
It May Be A Card, But That's The Morelos Effect
No Issue If The Rules Are Applied Fairly
