“I’ll Turn A Blind Eye To That” – Gerrard’s Brilliant Post Game Comments Will Have Been Understood By Rangers’ Players

|

With Rangers suffering a minor hiccup in the Premiership clash with Aberdeen the other week, manager Steven Gerrard knew that Sunday’s meeting with Motherwell was an opportunity for us to get back at it and keep the pressure on Celtic in the battle for top spot and the title.

With Nikola Katic opening the scoring in the first half before Alfredo Morelos doubled our lead (before getting harshly sent off for celebrating), a 2-0 victory was enough to return all three points and the gap remains two.

Speaking to Rangers’ Official Youtube site after the game as he reflected on the win, Croatian international left back Borna Barisic came in for special mention and it seems our gaffer was having a little bit of fun at his expense.

Late on in the game, Rangers were awarded a free kick and Barisic almost took his opportunity to extend the scoreline and get his name on the sheet, but his effort cannoned off the woodwork, and Gerrard admitted that given we were down to ten men, if he’d have tried that at 2-1 he’d have ‘lost control’ as game management dictates we should be taking it into the corner.

“With a couple of minutes on the clock, I’m expecting us to go into the corner, and show game management and experience. If it was 2-1 I would’ve lost control and I’d have had a go at him, but 2-0 with two minutes to go I’ll turn a blind eye to that.”

It’s a good approach from Gerrard here, a small bit of banter but nobody in the squad can be left unaware of the message he’s sending out about time and place and being sensible with our play depending on the situation. Given Barisic’s ability from dead ball situations, in those circumstances, you can’t blame him for trying either and it almost came off.
