Jake Hastie has returned to Rangers after his loan spell at Rotherham United was cut short as reported in The Daily Record.

The Gers signed the 21-year-old from Motherwell – having to just pay a development fee due to Hastie being out of contract – after an impressive six-months in which he scored 6 goals and created 1 assist in 12 first-team appearances for the Fir Park side.

He started his Rotherham career in a similar vein with three goals in his first three games only to become a peripheral figure in recent weeks making a total of just 18 appearances for the Millers.

The return of Hastie will do little to dispel the rumours surrounding the possibly departures of both Jordan Jones and Brandon Barker, also reported in The Daily Record yesterday.

Jones has been the subject of transfer interest from both Middlesborough and Stoke City and he appears to have fallen out of favour with Steven Gerrard since recovering from his self-inflicted knee injury suffered in his red card tackle against Celtic in September.

Four months on the sidelines looks to have undone the good work that the winger put in prior to his injury and, if he does depart Glasgow, his contribution in the Europa League shouldn’t be forgotten.

Barker, on the other hand, has had a less than stellar spell in the famous Light Blue shirt and his potential departure is unlikely to get anything other than universal approval, harsh as that may sound.

Will Jake Hastie make an impact in the second-half of the season?

If Hastie can rediscover his Motherwell form from the second half of last season he will be a useful weapon in Rangers attempts to win their 55th title and end their bitter rivals dominance of Scottish football.
