Rangers remains a tight ship when it comes to transfer rumours, there is obviously a deal close to being completed for Nicolas Raskin given the reports from Belgium but progress on a move for Morgan Whittaker hasn’t been quite as widely reported.

Two offers are said to have been rejected for the 22-year old Swansea City playmaker but, writing for Bet Victor, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has suggested that it is a transfer that is very much still alive:

“Finally, Rangers are expected to try again for Morgan Whittaker: Swansea turned down £1.5million proposal last week for the talented winger who wants Rangers move, it’s up to the clubs but after Cantwell deal, Rangers can try again for Whittaker who would be keen on the move.”

Judging by what we have seen so far and the positions that needed to be addressed, it is clear that Todd Cantwell and Raskin are the priority signings for this window and that anything else would be a bonus if the right deal can be struck.

Looking at the bids so far – £900,000 and £1.5m – we can’t be far from Swansea’s valuation so Romano could well be right, we are hundreds of thousands rather than millions away in terms of what they are wanting.

Whittaker, with nine goals and seven assists,  isn’t a player that we specifically “need” right now, however, he does look like an upgrade on Scott Wright, Rabbi Matondo and even Fashion Sakala, in terms of technical ability at least, and we should never walk from a transfer that could improve the team without breaking the bank – there is going to be a big transition in the summer and it would do no harm at all to get ahead of the curve just now.
