There are several Rangers players out of contract in the summer and Ross Wilson, like the fans, will no doubt have a list of names on his desk in order of priority.

Ryan Kent has to be at the top and, probably, given that he has hardly played in the last three seasons, Filip Helander will be at the bottom. Somewhere in the middle will be Ryan Jack.

The Scotland international – touch wood – finally looks to be over the worst of his injury problems, since returning to fitness he hasn’t suffered any relapses of the calf problems that saw him miss large parts of the last few years and he has become an important part of Michael Beale’s plans.

When the Gers gaffer first arrived, his praise of Glen Kamara seemed to signal a reduced role for Jack, however, the 30-year old has forced his way back into the team as he looks to earn a new deal.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, former Rangers midfielder Graham Dorrans, who had his own hammer thrower inflicted injury problems, thinks that he could be one of those who will be offered a new deal:

“When I was there, as far as I knew, he had a good relationship with Michael Beale. I think the manager rates Ryan really highly.

“I’d be very surprised if there wasn’t a deal offered there in the next few weeks. The club might be focusing on bringing players in.

“It might be something they look at after it closes. I’m sure there will be conversations to get that sorted out.”

What Jack has in his favour is that he is a home grown player when it comes to the UEFA quota, he also isn’t on astronomical wages or knocking on the manager’s door wanting to leave. He isn’t stupid, he is a Rangers fan and knows that he won’t get to play at a bigger club if he leaves or, probably, one playing in European football.

At Rangers, there is a manager who loves him and understands him. Jack has to be realistic in terms of his past in that we simply can’t offer him a long-term deal, regardless of his form, if he is willing to accept this then Dorrans could well be right.
