Rangers title winning side of 2020/21 found itself on Sky Sports Monday Night Football this week as former manager Steven Gerrard saw his Aston Villa team take on Nottingham Forest.

Gerrard has struggled to get his Villa team going in terms of goals despite being relatively hard to beat and well organised. It was these struggles that Jamie Carragher was looking at as part of the pre-match build up.

Rangers fans know how important our full-backs are in terms of creating chances and towards our overall game plan, we only need to look at the number of goals that Antonio Colak is getting off their supply to see how effective it can be when it goes well.

Gerrard has yet to find α similar level of creativity from the full-backs at Villa, nor has he been able to find α full-back capable of scoring nearly 20 goals α season.

There are similarities between what Villa fans are seeing now and what we used to see against α low block though, cross after cross getting thrown into the box but without any clear cut opportunities being created, Gerrard needs to find α plan B and α flexibility in attack before he finds himself looking for another job – his trusted number two flying high at the top of the Championship in his first solo gig unlikely to ease his frustrations.
