Gers boost in Veerman chase after fee revelation

|

Rangers could yet be successful in their pursuit of Joey Veerman after it emerged that Heerenveen don’t have his price-tag set quite as high as first thought.

Speaking to the Dutch press and reported by The Daily Record, Sporting director Cees Roozemond revealed that the figures being mentioned in the press are nowhere near what has really been offered which could bring him back into Rangers price range, if we can see off Alashkert:

“The bids that arrived weren’t interesting for us.

“The offers that I see being bandied about never came to us or he’d have been sold three times already.

“We’d happily grant Joey a transfer, we really want to give him that chance but it’s also just a quiet transfer window.

“We’ve come through the Covid year pretty well from a financial point of view.

“We are very happy with Joey, because he is a fantastic footballer.

“And let’s be honest: last year we extended his contract with both parties.”

Hellas Verona were rumoured to have bid £5million with Ross Wilson said to have tabled something in the region of £3.85m, the player himself spoke about his unhappiness at Heerenveen’s valuation – £8.75m – which makes Roozemond’s statement all the more confusing – is he suggesting that if Rangers table even £4m that it would be accepeted?

Who scored Rangers first ever goal under Steven Gerrard in EL qualification?

For a player of Veerman’s quality, if he is available at this sort of price it would be a no-brainer, however, there is one minor issue, Rangers have just signed Juninho Bacuna. A creative number eight who will be expected to play a similar role to the one that Veerman would have been asked to do had we signed him.

Despite his claim, I’ve a feeling that Roosemond has no interest in selling his star player for a figure near to what is supposed t have been bid for him, after all, he’s still under contract for another three years, for once, the selling club holds all the cards.
