Rangers tend to get their transfer business done early so that new arrivals can be integrated as soon as possible and participate in an infamously grueling pre-season routine.

One area that will probably see money being spent is in the middle of the park and the top target – in terms of price tag – is Heerenveen’s Joey Veerman, with the Dutch youth cap said to be on the market for around £8.75million.

PSV were long rumoured to be favourites for his signature but his valuation and the fact that they have now signed Davy Propper from Brighton would suggest that his future lies elsewhere and, according to the player himself, it looks like he could be heading abroad, as reported by Glasgow Live:

“Ajax has a lot of good midfielders, PSV just chose someone else. I happened to be on the beach with him (Propper) Not together, but he was also on that beach in Ibiza. Then we heard that afternoon that news. That’s a bit of a bummer, but you can’t do anything about it.

“Suppose he hadn’t made it, then you don’t know whether they would have got me just as well. Then you think about it, but nothing else.

“As it looks now, I’m still at Heerenveen and I’m doing my best and nothing else is going on there.

“It’s just what kind of club comes along. I think it will be very difficult in the Netherlands, so there’s only one thing to do.”

Veerman really would be a sizeable coup if Ross Wilson is able to negotiate a deal similar to the one that saw Ryan Kent make a surprising return to Ibrox after his loan spell from Liverpool. That he is now considering a move away from the Netherlands certainly helps our cause.
