On Friday evening, a headline appeared which suggested that Joey Veerman had provided an update in regard to speculation over his furure and a possible move to Ibrox.

The piece was from the Daily Record, who alluded to the Heerenveen playmaker offering a clue on his next move.

If ever a headline didn’t match the content of the story, this was it.

In the end, the basis of the report was an Instagram post by a fan and a one word response from Veerman, completed with an emoji – nothing more, nothing less.

This comes in the wake of that same title further commenting on – and platforming the likes of Chris Sutton – to slam Rangers on the new media set-up at Ibrox, with official media partners having to sign up and pay for exclusive access.

As was the case for Sutton’s column, he was very wide of the mark in relation to fan media and showing that his subject expertise wasn’t quite what it should be.

Added to the Veerman ‘story’ from Friday, the likes of the Daily Record can’t have it both ways.

They can’t complain abut fan media and Rangers restricting access to mainstream titles when pure speculation and clickbait is still part of their modus operandi.

Meanwhile, the media landscape evolves with committed fan media and other outlets plotting a different course without the need for any nonsense.
