Rangers pursuit of Nicolas Raskin seems to be the only work that Ross Wilson is distracted with just now, no other rumours have leaked from Ibrox or from further afield since a £1.5million bid for Morgan Whittaker was reportedly rejected last weekend and a £2m offer yesterday.

There have been a host of journalists making claim and counter claim but what does seem to be accurate is that our initial bid has not met Standard Liege’s valuation of the Belgium Under-21 international.

Speaking on The Rangers Review’s morning briefing, Chris Jack, The Herald’s Rangers correspondent was on to give an update and urged fans not to panic that a deal hasn’t been struck yet:

“I think a deal will get done, it seems to make sense for all parties to get a deal done, Raskin wants to move, Rangers want to sign him and Liege want to get as much as they can for a player who is out of contract and will be worth nothing in the summer.

“I know a lot of Rangers fans are a bit angsty at the fact that a fee not been met, “just go and pay the money” but, any transfer negotiation starts with a club setting a price, Rangers want to pay a different price and nine times out of 10 we meet in the middle.

“I don’t think it makes sense for Rangers to say “right, we’ll give you €2m” plus whatever bits and bobs, there’s going to be some to-ing and fro-ing.”

I’d still be very surprised if Raskin isn’t announced in this window, the numbers don’t seem excessive or too far apart and it is too important to get him in now. His role is key to everything that Michael Beale wants to achieve and we desperately need a “proper” number six.

Beale expected between 2-4 new faces in this window, that we have only seen one with a few days left of the transfer window is disconcerting at best, negligent at worst, let’s hope Ross Wilson remembers where he left the chequebook.
