Gers can still solve keeper problem in summer for free with former scourge of Celtic

One position that won’t be addressed in this transfer window is goalkeeper, Michael Beale has been pretty clear that he is happy with what he has to work with, for now.

Speaking just a week ago, the Gers gaffer did suggest that it could be a different story in the summer though after he has had time to assess those that are in his squad and maybe not had a fair crack of the whip over the last couple of seasons, as reported by STV:

“I think it’s clear at the end of the season we need to either bring a goalie in or make sure that we’ve made a decision on John or Robby to be number one.

“And so I think I have to give that and I have to give all the players in-house an opportunity as well, because I am going to change players in the squad over time.

“I am going to change the look of Rangers to move forward. We’re going to re-energise it with younger, young players coming in and then we’ve got a lot of uncertainty around some of ours.

“At the moment everyone’s pulling in the right direction. I couldn’t be more pleased with the three goalkeepers I’ve got right now, if I’m honest.”

What frustrated me about this is that Bodo/Glimt’s keeper Nikita Haikin was available to sign on a free transfer immediately, a keeper with experience of British football, of winning and of playing in Europe too – he has also beaten Celtic, comfortably.

The Russia born 27-year old holds British citizenship now and has taken advantage of this by signing for Bristol City. At first glance it looks as though we may have missed out on a golden opportunity to sign a long-term option for a key position on a free, however, he has only signed until the summer, when he will reconsider his options.

Ross Wilson has to be monitoring him and, if Beale does decide to bring in a new number one, Haikin has to be near to the top of the list.

I think you must be this guys agent the way you push him every chance you get . Signing for Bristol City maybe indicates he`s not at the level you think .By the way Joey Barton is manager of Bristol Rovers not City.

Not many clubs are looking for a keeper half way through the season though, they’ve just lost theirs to Wolves and he’s only signed a short-term deal.
