With a guaranteed fortune coming our way and plenty of money in the bank already, there is every chance that Ross Wilson will be looking to get the chequebook out over the next few days.

And, no sooner has the dust settled on the Champions League draw and our sporting director arrived back in Glasgow – probably with a well-deserved hangover – than we have been linked with a multi-million pound transfer.

The 4th official, so often the first to break news for the club, has exclusively revealed that Rangers are in for Standard Liege’s Nicolas  Raskin. The Belgium Under-21 international is capable of playing anywhere in the middle of the park and has the sort of positional flexibility that Giovanni van Bronckhorst loves in a player:

“I can confirm that Rangers are interested in Standard Liege midfielder Nicolas Raskin.

“Raskin was also wanted by another Belgian club Club Brugge. But the player has declined their offer.

“Raskin is interested in a move to Rangers with the Scottish club thought to be an exciting place for the midfielder to the grow.

“Standard Liege wants €5.5million but expect Rangers to negotiate.”

There is no doubt that our exploits in Europe over the last couple of seasons will have caught the eye and Raskin, with just a year left of his current contract, appears to be open to coming to the SPFL, although, in fairness, the prospect of Champions League football is probably the bigger pull.

Raskin might be the first name mentioned – other than Cristiano Ronaldo of course – since we qualified for the group stages, but there is absolutely no chance that he will be the last – watch this space.
