Rangers have been drawn in Champions League Group A alongside Ajax, Liverpool and Napoli.

Glamour, headlines, a ‘Battle of Britain’ and more. In terms of Europe’s top tournament, it doesn’t get much better.

Rangers will obviously be huge underdogs in the group but that will suit Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his team very well. The Gers will have to aim to get a win or two at Ibrox with anything else being a bonus at this level.

Third place and a Europa League spot for after the turn of the year would be great but even that will be an uphill task, that is the reality of the situation. In Rangers favour, they have nothing at all to lose now and could well spring a surprise or two.

The supporters will be loving it. Three excellent locations for very different reasons with varying factors at play at each of those locations. The trips and games will be very much enjoyed, despite coming over a shorter period of time this time round, due to the World Cup.

Calvin Bassey returning to Ibrox, Steven Gerrard watching through the window at two of his former clubs and a cathedral of Italian football, the spiritual home of Diego Maradona. This is what its all about.
