There are a few players that are still expected to leave Rangers this summer transfer window, however, there has been a surprise name linked with a move away from the club having only arrived in January.

Lech Poznań arę said to be interested in taking right-back Mateusz Zukowski on loan for a year with an option to buy clause as part of the deal, the 20-year old defender apparently not being part of the club’s future plans.

Zukowski arrived as a replacement for Nathan Patterson who was sold to Everton for a record fee at the time, however, with James Tavernier signing a new deal, the chances of him getting much game time appears to be limited, the emergence of Adam Devine from the academy could also play a part in the decision making to allow him to leave.

Polish journalist Sebastian Staszewski, writing for Sport Interia, has claimed that talks are at an advanced stage:

“20-year-old Mateusz Żukowski is close to transfer to @LechPoznan . The talks are advanced, and the chances of a deal are high. Defender @RangersFC is to be borrowed for a year with an option to buy. In theory, it’s supposed to relieve Joel Pereira. More per @SportINTERIA .”

The right-back looked decent in his only senior appearance against Annan Athletic – opposition considered – comfortable on the ball, fast and athletic, if a little raw defensively, however, injury and the fact that the captain is in front of him have halted his progress.

There is nothing wrong with this sort of deal though, they might not be as eye-catching as Patterson’s or Calvin Bassey’s but they all add up and it is one that we should get used to as part of an effective player trading model – look after the pennies and all that.
