Earlier this week Vital Rangers brought you news of an exclusive transfer rumour from The 4th Official, liking us with Belgian playmaker Nicolas Raskin.

The Standard Liege midfielder is highly thought of, however, with just a year left on his current deal, there is likely to be a period of negotiation when it comes to any potential transfer fee if the blog’s latest article on Patreon is accurate:

“Standard Liege are hoping to get €5.5million for the player but, realistically, with a year left in his contract, the transfer fee is not going to be that (this part is obviously an educated guess on my part).

“The player wants to join, and there have been negotiations between the player and Rangers. The main challenge is the talks between the two clubs, as Rangers expect a far lower price given the dynamics at play here. More talks are expected tomorrow.”

It’s a market that Ross Wilson has shopped in before and it is an area of the park that we need long-term investment so it wouldn’t be a surprise if this story has legs – that the mainstream media also picked it up suggests that there might be something in it.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has plenty of players to choose from in midfield but at the end of this season Ryan Jack will be 31 with a less than favourable medical history, Scott Arfield will be 34 and Steven Davis will be 38 – younger, and fresher legs are needed alongside John Lundstram, Glen Kamara and Tom Lawrence, regardless of the quality that the older trio bring to the squad.

Scottish teams have been given an extra day to complete any outstanding business due to league cup fixtures being held, whether or not this will be enough time to get any more deals over the line, we’ll need to wait and see.
