A couple of transfer developments that may have gone unnoticed at the weekend, mainly due to the hilarity caused by Celtic’s defeat to St Mirren and how a deal that was announced as signed, well, wasn’t.

One player who won’t be heading to Rangers is Daniel Johnson, the Preston North End attacking midfielder signed a contract extension which means that he will no longer be available on a free transfer in the summer and given that he is no better than what we already have, I can’t see us paying a fee for him, especially when they were wanting between £2-4million even though he was nearing the end of his deal.

There is better news though in the “pursuit” of Billy Gilmour, a rumour that Steven Gerrard has already addressed this season and one that will never go away.

Frank Lampard was a big fan of the Scotland youth international but his departure has seen an almost immediate change in fortunes for the 19-year old with Thomas Tuchel leaving him out of the match day squad entirely for Chelsea’s win over Burnley.

With Steven Davis yet to commit to another season with Rangers, bringing Gilmour “home” would be a huge coup, he would get regular game time and European experience, knowing the club and being closer to home would be an obvious attraction as would getting the chance to develop under one of the finest midfielders the country has ever seen.

Hopefully Ross Wilson has asked the question and been given some words of encouragement, he would maybe be a loan player but as one of our own, nobody would grudge seeing him in Light Blue strutting his stuff.
