There are some transfer rumours that never seem to go away, regardless of whether or not there is actually any foundation in them.

One such name appears to be Bright Osayi-Samuel who is, apparently, at the centre of a bid from Rangers, according to Turkish sports journalist Talha Arslan.

The reporter – with nearly 37,000 Twitter followers – tweeted that the Gers have “begun formal bids” for the 23-year old Nigerian born winger, the biggest sticking point in the story is that Celtic’s name has also been dropped in to recent speculation.

We have seen this before where the Old Firm teams are used, for whatever reason, to try to raise the profile of a player – of course, there is a chance that we are shopping in the same markets but on this occasion I just can’t see it.

When Osayi-Samuel was approaching the end of his QPR contract and was available on a pre-contract agreement, you would think that we would have been in pole position given that his manager at the time was Mark Warburton and that both Lee Wallace and Liam Kelly would be on hand to point him in the direction of Ibrox.

However, he chose Fenerbahce and with it an early move was negotiated for a cut-price fee, I’m not convinced that Ross Wilson is the type of operator who would pay millions for a player he could have signed for nothing just a few months earlier – it doesn’t make sense – especially when we aren’t desperate for a player in that position given that we already have Fashion Sakala, Ianis Hagi, Scott Wright, Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten who can play in the same position.

It’s one that refuses to go away but unless Fenerbahce significantly drop their reported asking price for the £3million rated player, I can’t see it being a goer, however, if Arslan is well connected, you just never know…
