It has been over a month since Rangers last signed anybody and despite Steven Gerrard declaring that he expected new arrivals to be imminent, there has yet to be any announcements coming out of Govan.

Even the rumour mill has been strangely quiet, but one name that has popped up is Bright Osayi-Samuel, a 22-year old forward very much in the mould that the Gers manager likes to see playing behind a central  striker.

Currently playing with QPR, Osayi-Samuel has entered the last year of his contract and Ross Wilson – according to Football Insider – has approach the player about possibly signing for the Ibrox club on a pre-contract agreement in January.

Mark Warburton is the current manager of the Championship side and it is believed that they are wanting as much as £5million for the player who scored six goals and got nine assists last season, with a move to Brugge having collapsed earlier in the summer despite a fee being agreed.

Leicester City, Fulham and Brighton are also said to be monitoring the situation with competition for his signature expected to be fierce.

Should Rangers offer £5m now or be patient for a pre-contract deal for Osayi-Samuel?

A lot could depend on the future of Alfredo Morelos as to when the recruitment team at Rangers make their move, if a significant fee is achieved for the Colombian international, they would be well placed to make a similar bid to the one that the Belgians had accepted.

At the moment Rangers are well resourced in forward areas, however, an extra body that could play off the right hand side of the attack would be greatly appreciated, with Osayi-Samuel capable of playing that role – he might just be the man to end Gerrard’s transfer drought.
