Rangers have, finally, announced the signing of Norwich City’s attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell.Β

The 24-year old has been expected to sign for some time but has now put pen to paper on a “long-term” contract that sees him move immediately and add creativity to Michael Beale’s midfield.

Vital Rangers picked out Cantwell in December as being a player who we should target, predominantly on a pre-contract agreement because it didn’t seem possible for a player of his calibre to be available to us in this window, a fee has been agreed though and the one-time Β£40-50million player will now be strutting his stuff at Ibrox.

I can understand those that might be concerned about his lack of form over the last six-months, however, he has more than enough credit in the bank to be excited about his arrival.

Beale has looked a lot more expansive in his approach but he has been putting square pegs in round holes and we should see a noticeable difference having a player who is comfortable on the ball and willing to play through the lines either by dribbling or by passing.

The manager wanted players who could improve us and be here for the next few years and Cantwell certainly ticks those boxes and Ross Wilson deserves a lot of credit for getting the deal done – this is a player who wouldn’t have been short of offers from clubs in England’s top two leagues given his availability and his status as a home grown player.

Welcome to Rangers, Todd.
