Day 17 of the transfer window and still all quiet on the Paisley Road Western front….

Anxious Rangers fans won’t have been made to feel any better in recent days with the news that PSV Eindhoven appear to be making a late bid for a player that Michael Beale suggested was all but complete and it has been revealed why Todd Cantwell hasn’t already been announced as his first signing as manager.

Replying to a fan on Twitter, respected journalist Alan Nixon claimed that it is money that is the delaying factor and that a deal could have been signed and sealed by now. Why asked if he could see Cantwell signing for Rangers, he said

“Could have signed sooner … sounds like usual cash haggling … nothing new there.”

Ross Wilson’s coat is already on a shoogly nail and Beale has explained exactly the type of player that he wants to see through the door – ones that improve the starting XI – anything less and our sporting director should be out the door.

Obviously, Wilson will be working on more than one deal at a time but with Celtic having signed three new additions, it is fair to ask questions of the man responsible for our recruitment. Why, for example, are we only just making a bid for Morgan Whittaker of Swansea now rather than when the window opened?

As we have seen recently, players coming back from injury do make a difference with Ianis Hagi and John Souttar hopefully back in competitive action this week if all goes well but that is no excuse for not strengthening the squad quicker – getting a good deal is one thing but getting the right players is just as important.

We should be signing Cantwell on a pre contract and if Norwich are haggling then let him stay there until the summer . It would be nice to get him early but we don`t need him , the leagues done .As for Whittaker , I don`t know why we are looking at him at all , he scored goals in the Ist division in England , hardly makes him a world beater .He was sent out on loan by Swansea because he wasn`t good enough for them , a team in the bottom half of the Championship ,and they think he is worth £2 million . Forget him and move on.

This transfer window has been embarrassing so far for fans and club. I know MB wants to see what he’s got team wise then make big decisions but most of the injured are back now and most he already knew. I think this is all down to RW. Looking to sign players for next to nothing
