A lot of fans turn the TV coverage off after games, some have work to go to, others the pub, however one eagle eyed fan who waited long enough to hear the post-match interviews picked something up that threw up a few questions.
One of the issues for the Rangers v Aberdeen semi-final was VAR but not in the way that it normally is, according to Michael Beale, via The Rangers Review, it has emerged that both managers wanted to play without it due to several technical issues:
“We knew it kept failing. Me and Jim [Goodwin] wanted to play without it. If VAR fails they should just play without it because the game had a lot of breaks which didn’t help either team. I thought the officials had a good game to be honest.”
What you might not have seen though, is what one Rangers fan picked up on Twitter:
We didn’t use VAR last night…. pic.twitter.com/EO8VSXd8Qx

Now, either Beale is being sarcastic when he says “they didn’t have VAR last night” regarding the incident when Georgios Giakoumakis clearly fouled Joe Wright of Kilmarnock in the 93rd minute or, VAR conveniently wasn’t working when Kilmarnock needed it to correct a clear error by Willie Collum.
Either way, between that, the VAR issues yesterday and the state of the pitch, the SFA has far from covered itself in glory over what should have been two high profile spectacles which almost ended in farce.
