Rangers have to be in the market for a new striker with Kemar Roofe breaking down again and Alfredo Morelos – although looking fitter and more motivated – yet to commit to a new contract.

Antonio Colak is many things and has settled into life at Ibrox with a solid start, however, he needs chances to be made for him. He doesn’t have the ability that Roofe and Morelos have to either create something through guile or through sheer brute force.

So far, we have seen summer target Davie Selke mentioned as a possible signing in January, the 27-year old Hertha Berlin forward has handed in a transfer request and could well be available on a free transfer, however, there has been a new report by Sports World Ghana, that Antoine Semenyo of Bristol City is also being considered:

“The Bristol City attacker has been a long-term transfer target of Celtic but their rivals have now joined the fray for his signature.

“Sportsworldghana.com understands that Rangers are ready to offer £5million to Bristol City for the services of Semenyo in January 2023 as the player will be left with just six months to end his contract.

“Bristol City have already made provisions to sign Semenyo’s replacement and they will sell him in January as they don’t want him to go free in the summer.”

Semenyo isn’t quite out of contract in the summer of 2023, Bristol City have the option to extend his current deal by another year so Rangers would have to pay the sort of fee mentioned if they wanted to sign him in January.

The Ghanian international has four goals in 17 appearances in the Championship which, when you consider the numbers of Ross Stewart and Oli McBurnie, is not a lot to get excited about, a total of 13 goals in over 100 games in England’s second tier is hardly prolific.

There are a lot of things to like though; he can shoot off either side, is good on the ball and is lightning quick. He also has time on his side to develop.

For £5m though. He should be near the finished article, not a backup or a player who isn’t ready to make an immediate impact.
