The modern day transfer market is far from predictable but to suggest that Umar Sadiq is worth paying £30million for is borderline insane.

That the clubs said to be willing to pay this for the 24-year old is Manchester City makes it even more bizarre, their almost unlimited funds could target any striker they want, and yet, it is a player who had a questionable attitude and unquestionable lack of ability during his time at Rangers.

Glasgow Live has reported on Spanish media outlet AS’s claims that the flop forward is being targeted by the Champions League finalists, a £30m fee is one thing, but the fact that he has a €60m release clause is even more mind boggling.

Yes, he has scored goals for Partizan Belgrade and Almeira since leaving Ibrox, however, his record is far from that of Alfredo Morelos, especially when you take into consideration performances in European football and for their respective international sides.

Sadiq isn’t playing at a level significantly higher than Morelos and yet he is being valued at three times more, their form over the last few years simply can’t be compared and yet a fee of £10m is being mentioned as adequate for El Bufalo.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

Yes, we need to start making money from player sales but not at a cost, it would be bad business to sell one of our top assets for half of the club’s valuation, not only in terms of replacing him but also for trying to negotiate in the future.

If one of the two strikers is worth £30m, it certainly isn’t the one who decided that the best thing to do once rounding a keeper was to throw himself to the ground rather than stroking the ball into an empty net.
