If you, like me, are one of the Rangers fans hoping that Ryan Gauld was on a flight home to Scotland to sign a contract under the watchful gaze of Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson, I’m afraid you could be in for a disappointment.

One of the Primeira Liga’s players of the season will also be one of the most in demand free transfers on the continent with the £4.5million rated midfielder set to walk away from relegated Farense.

The 25-year old almost single handedly kept the minnows in the top flight only to miss out on the last day of the season but, with nine goals and seven assists, he can be more than happy with his contribution.

Gauld is keeping his cards close to his chest, however, a source close to the player has told Vital Rangers that he will be “staying abroad” ruling out a move to Ibrox and, probably, any chances of a call up to the Scottish national team given Steve Clarke’s recent record of ignoring those that play outwith these shores.

Who finished as Rangers top goal scorer this season?

His next move is going to be a big one and needs to make sure that he will be playing as regularly as he was at Farense, it’s one of the reasons I was so keen to get him to Rangers, with better forwards on the end of his chances he could easily have been bettering the numbers that Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi put up last season.

One to keep an eye on but it looks like we are, unfortunately, missing out, this time at least.
