Ianis Hagi played 77 minutes tonight as Romania were beaten 2-1 by Georgia in Ploiesti.

The home side lined up in a 4-3-3 formation with the Rangers man assuming a familiar position on the right side of the attack.

Winning his 17th cap tonight, Hagi was front and centre in the forward play from the home side.

He was unfortunate not to score when he saw an excellent free kick come back off the bar – this was followed up by another key pass but the Romanians could not take advantage.

Next up for Romania is a trip to England to face Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions at the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough.

That game should see Hagi once again heavily involved for his national side as he grows into the senior squad.

The season ahead for Hagi Jr is a crucial one as he aims to step up, both with Rangers and for Romania – the former Genk, Viitorul and Fiorentina attacker is growing and evolving as a footballer, as well as improving with the stability and coaching at Ibrox.

He is now a Champion domestically with another season of Europa League experience under his belt.

Yes, Hagi has more to give and further potential to realise but his existing contribution cannot be underestimated – his eight goals and 15 assists across all competitions this season underlines that.
