One of the attributes that saw Giovanni van Bronckhorst appointed as Rangers manager was his track record of promoting youth players and bedding them into first-team football, α quality that he has already brought to fruition with many academy youngsters making their debuts over the last 12-months.
One of those players is Adam Devine who appears to have been identified as the long-term successor to James Tavernier, the teenager’s role in the squad is now very much that of α genuine back-up.
Getting him tied up to α long-term deal means that we are well placed at right-back and the club are delighted to announce, via the official website, that Devine has signed α contract extension until 2025, sporting director Ross Wilson happy to get the deal done:
“We have developed our Academy development programme considerably in recent seasons with a clear focus on clear individual plans. Adam has been making excellent progress against his plan which is naturally pleasing for Gio, and all of our coaching and support staff. I am sure that Adam’s hard work and progress will continue.”
Devine is still raw and nowhere near as ready for regular first-team football as Leon King or Alex Lowry, however, he is very much in the mould of the skipper’s last understudy, Nathan Patterson.
Tall, athletic, and very attack-minded, Devine is the sort of modern full-back that we need, if he works on his delivery and positioning then he has every chance of succeeding Tavernier one day – the hard work starts now.
