For Todd Cantwell, fans will have seen him on Match of the Day or for Norwich City on Sky Sports or BT Sport, the ease at which the Premier League can be accessed makes it an awful lot easier to catch up on what he might bring to Rangers if you missed him the first time around.

For Nicolas Raskin, we have to rely on YouTube compilations and on the opinions of others who have watched him at first hand.

There is no better voice in this instant than his former Standard Liege manager Luka Elsner and, speaking to The Rangers Review, has given a mouthwatering reference for the 21-year old mifielder:

“Against the best team in the league, he was really dominant. It was during a hectic time at Standard. This is where you felt his level is for sure going to be quite high. This is when you knew he was Belgium national team material.

“He’s there to win the ball, instead of just reading passes and trying to intercept. Nico goes to the player to take the ball away.

“He has a good shot and cross and is able to appear in the box as well. He will rarely lose the ball, holds it under pressure well and can scan the whole pitch.

“He is a big fighter on the field, being a leader in terms of the energy he brings on the pitch. It comes naturally because of his charisma. Nico is able to bring fire to a game by himself and always gives his best.

“For me, those are the qualities that stand out and make him some kind of special player.”

This is exactly the sort of thing you want to hear about a new signing, especially one that we were already excited about in a position that we have needed an upgrade in quality for some time.

On his debut last wekend, Raskin showed flashes of what he is capable of in a 15 minute cameo. Only missing one pass, winning all his ground duels and providing a spark that has sometimes been missing from the engine room.

In his interviews too, Raskin hinted that he is hugely motivated by winning and that mid-table mediocrity in a better league wasn’t going to be good enough for him – let’s hope he brings that fire over the next few weeks and especially when we visit Hampden at the end of the month, he’s going to need it.
