It may be another club in another league for Kyle Lafferty but Linfield and Windsor Park will provide a very familiar stage for the 35-year old.

The former Rangers title hero ended his stay in Kilmarnock late last month, opening the door for a move outside of the transfer window and that has now been confirmed with his old strike partner, and another former Ranger in the form of David Healy striking a deal for the rest of this campaign.

The Blues will become the 15th club that Lafferty has represented over his 19 year career to date, including double spells at Ibrox as well as Kilmarnock and three loan periods at different points of his journey at Darlington, Caykur Rizespor and Birmingham City, respectively.

Lafferty has generally scored goals and ade an impact at all of the clubs he has played for and although now reaching the latter stages of his career, he will still have plenty to offer in the Northern Irish Premiership. With Linfield striving to defend their league title in a fierce contest involving up to five sides, there will be plenty to play for as well as motivation over the coming months.

It is a football environment that the player will know all about with the chance of securing another winners’ medal or two likely to provide a source of motivation for the Fermanagh man.

He would infamously come alive at the business end of the season, as was the case during his treble title years at Rangers under Walter Smith (2009-2011) so that will hopefully be omen for Healy’s men as the striker swaps his stripes in Ayrshire for a different shade of blue in Belfast.
