All though his services aren’t required this season, the news that Niko Katic won’t be seen until next year is a huge disappointment for a player so popular amongst Rangers fans.

The Daily Record has reported from Steven Gerrard’s pre-match press conference that despite making good progress in his recovery from anterior cruciate ligament knee surgery, we will have to wait until next season to see him in Light Blue again.

The Croatian international looked to have made the most of his time in lockdown and was in phenomenal shape ahead of a return to pre-season training, unfortunately, he was injured before a ball was kicked which led to the signing of Leon Balogun.

With Jack Simpson signed up from Bournemouth and already at the club, we could be going into next season with as many as six senior centre-halves, Gerrard has spoken before about wanting four so we can expect George Edmundson to be sold if he impresses at Derby County and Katic to go out on loan.

I’d love to see the 24-year old stay in Scotland and potentially at a club like Hearts – if they are promoted – we have seen already this season how strengthening other Premiership clubs can benefit our title chances.

His Parkhead winner remains the highlight of his time with Rangers, here’s hoping that it won’t be the last time we see him causing carnage in an opposition box and we, at Vital Rangers, wish him a speedy and full recovery as soon as possible.
