Unfortunately, we don’t get to pick and choose why players may or may not be sold as part of Rangers player trading model, we have to consider any realistic offers that may come along.

The idea is that we should always have another player either able to step in immediately or have one identified that we can bring in, banking a profit at the same time.

Surely this makes selling a fringe player for an eight-figure fee the ultimate dream, A player who has only started two league games all season but is still worth millions?

Not when it’s Nathan Patterson it isn’t.

A report in The Guardian has claimed that Everton are set to up their last rejected bid of £9million for the Scotland international, a bid that would really test the resolve of Ross Wilson.

“Everton are expected to renew efforts to sign Nathan Patterson from Rangers in January when Rafael Benítez hopes to strengthen both full‑back positions.

“The 20-year-old Scotland international was the subject of two bids from Everton in the summer but his suitors are ready to make a third attempt when the transfer window reopens.

“Everton have been heavily reliant on their captain Séamus Coleman at right-back this season and will need to improve on the £9m offer that was also rejected by the Scottish champions to finally land Patterson.”

We would all love Patterson to, one day, take over from James Tavernier and be our right-back for years to come, but it’s just not going to happen.

On the plus side, the skipper still has a good few years ahead of him and has a long-term contract. It’s not a position we need to worry about for some time.

Id be gutted to see Patterson leave, but if the alternative was Joe Aribo or Glen Kamara, I’m sorry, but our back up right-back is the one to sell – if the price is right – and if we have already rejected an offer of £9m, the next one might be harder to turn down.

When you see what Celtic get for players who are average to say the least the bidding for Paterson should start at 15 million and added to the price ongoing percentages I dont want to see him moving he is probable the best young full back that we have had since Alan Hutton but sometime finances dictate transfers of players
