Since leaving Rangers, Steven Gerrard has been linked with almost every player in our current starting XI.

It was always going to happen but the reality is that maybe 2-3 of our players at most will be potential targets – he knows what we want for them so expect decent offers if he does pick the phone up to Ross Wilson, two in particular could well be top of the list given how much he loved them during his time at Ibrox.

Speaking to Birmingham Live, former Aston Villa midfielder Ray Houghton reckons that Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara could be the subject of bids from their former gaffer:

“I think, with Steven, what we mustn’t forget is that he was at Rangers for a few years, so he has seen a few players up there that he might like as well.

“Like Glen Kamara, as an example.

“I watched Glen when he played for Finland against the Republic of Ireland, I didn’t know much about him before, and I was impressed by him.

“He controlled the back four, got the ball down, and was a continuity player. He kept it nice and easy. So Steven knows him. That could be a name there.

“And then you have got Joe Aribo. He’s out of contract, and he’s not going to sign a new one.”

For a start, Aribo isn’t out of contract, not until 2023 anyway, I’m also not entirely sure that Kamara has ever “controlled a back four”, so Ray isn’t off to a great start in terms of displaying a great knowledge of the two internationals.

Both players have improved immeasurably in their time at Rangers and the previous management team has to be applauded for that, bought for a combined £350,000, if they leave before their contracts expire we will be set to make a small fortune on them.

There’s little doubt that the pair are leading the resurgence under Giovanni van Bronckhorst and both will demand massive fees as a result, I could see one of them leaving but both? Now that would need Gerrard’s new paymasters to dig deep into their pockets.
