It had gone quiet for a few days but the *insert player’s name* transfer to Aston Villa rumours  look to be ramping up again as the opening of the January transfer window draws ever nearer.

This time it is centre-half  Connor Goldson who, as we all know, is out of contract at the end of the season.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Peter O’Rourke has claimed that the Gers vice-captain could well be on a list of potential targets for former gaffer Steven Gerrard:

“One of the names in the frame would be Connor Goldson, who is yet to sign a new deal at Rangers.

“I think his contract is up in the summer, so Villa might be able to get him for relatively cheap in January.”

Goldson, as with most of the players in the squad, has seen an upturn in form since Giovanni van Bronckhorst arrived at Ibrox, whether this is down to the managerial change or because he is looking to impress potential suitors is irrelevant, keeping clean sheets and getting three points is all that matters at the end of the day.

It would be a surprise if we cash in on Goldson in January even if it is the last chance that we would potentially have to make any money on him, he is simply too important to how our defence operates to allow to leave and try to bed someone in given what is at stake at the end of the season – without him, there’s no way Calvin Bassey would have developed into the centre-half he has become.
