Rangers highest profile transfer link just now is one that would appear, at first glance, to be a non-starter, however, a decent source has claimed that we could be about to put our hands in our pockets for the first time in a few windows.

Mateo Cassiera, as revealed by our own Graeme Hanna and Vital Rangers is currently valued at £8.5million by his club Sochi, however, even with other teams interested, it is believed that a move to Glasgow is top of the Colombian’s list of preferred destinations, according to The 4th Official:

“I was contacted by a source close to this move (not Rangers), and he confirmed Rangers interest in the striker, however, when pressed on how close the move is in reality, I was told that the player has several options but Rangers is where Cassierra wants to move.

“Separately, I had another conversation with a source close to the Ibrox board, and he told me categorically that Rangers would not be paying anywhere close to £8.5m for the striker.”

There is no doubt that we need more options in attack, we also need more quality and someone that we don’t need to change our entire system for when Alfredo Morelos isn’t available.

Cassierra has had a good season in Russia but he has obviously seen how his countryman has been able to get into the Colombia set up whilst playing in Scotland plus the chance to play in European competition, something that might not be afforded to his current team for some time.

The rumoured fee is a big one but we all know that it is players who hold the power nowadays and if they want to force a move through, they usually get their way, however, I also want to play for Rangers, doesn’t mean it is going to happen though.
