The transfer window must nearly be open because we’ve just been linked with a 20-year old Brazilian attacking midfielder currently playing for Flamengo in Serie A.

No, I’ve not made that up, and it hasn’t come from a source in Scotland either but Lahcen Senhaji, who has claimed that we are competing with Monaco to bring Lazaro, a talented playmaker, to Europe.

Senhaji is a journalist who, in his Twitter bio, has media outlet Mercato as one of the places you can find him so he is a reputable individual, that it is a French team who is also said to be interested explains how he has come across our name in the rumour.

Lazaro has only played 24 times this season as he looks to become established and with three goals and six assists he can be happy with his contribution because, in terms of minutes, he has just 11 full games to his name to give a better indication of his productivity. That a fee of €12million has already been mentioned demonstrates exactly what his potential is.

When Aaron Ramsey and Amad Diallo were signed in January, there was a clear plan in terms of what we were needing in the squad; an attacking midfielder capable of contributing with goals and assists and a right winger who could do the same, with Rabbi Matondo mentioned as a possible signing, it could well be that Lazaro is the name at the top of the list for our regular central midfield slot behind the striker – that he is already valued at over £10m may be a stumbling block though.
