Michael Beale had already made a good first impression as Steven Gerrard’s right-hand man, however, he has, arguably, made an even better one second time around.

Talk of taking the handbrake off, playing with more freedom and introducing a brand of football that will excite the fans is one way to get the support on side, however, talk is cheap.

What won’t help the new Rangers manager is a lengthy injury list, however, we have already seen enough in the first training sessions to feel a lot more confident going into the second half of the season.

Alex Lowry looks set for a big role, not only this but there was a welcome face taking part in full training – Kemar Roofe.

Not only does the 29-year old add quality through the middle but, if Beale is going to adopt similar tactics to those that he has used before, then we could well see Roofe deployed as a supporting number ten – the more goalscorers we can get on the pitch is only going to be a good thing.

Beale has already said that he doesn’t think the squad needs as much work as some are suggesting and it’s easy to see why if players like Roofe – with 34 goals for the club – are returning to training and going to be available for selection, a far cry from Giovanni van Bronckhorst not having any strikers at all towards the end of last season.

We all know what Roofe brings to this Rangers squad, that he barely made ten appearances under the previous manager was part of the reason he is no longer here, hopefully, Beale has more luck keeping him fit.
