One of the biggest complaints during Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s tenure was that, too often, it appeared almost as if we were playing not to lose rather than attacking teams into submission but, Michael Beale has given fans an insight into what his game plan is going to be and that it might be one to look forward to.

Speaking to Rangers TV, the new manager has promised to excite the Ibrox faithful, not just look to get the job done:

“I want us to be on the front foot, I want us to take the handbrake off and I want us to go for it every single week. That’s what excites this crowd. The fans come to watch their team win but they also come to be entertained.”

This will be music to Rangers fans ears. Domestically, especially away from, there were too many occasions under Gio where we simply didn’t create enough quality chances. This has to be what Beale tries to address first.

A lot of the time it didn’t take a tactical genius to work out what was going wrong either; crossing from deep, no pace to the attack, not enough players in the box and forward areas and too often, choosing the wrong option in good positions.

So far it would appear that Beale is going to have a different approach to the one that we saw under Steven Gerrard, it’s an easy assumption to make that there will be similarities but I think it’s fair to suggest that there will be no more endless attempts to just throw cross after cross into the box – we’ve seen that before under our last two managers and it was far from exciting, let’s hope Beale is a man of his word.
