Rangers attempts to keep their transfer business quiet were somewhat ruined by Hearts manager Robbie Neilson revealing that his club had rejected an offer for John Souttar to make his summer move a few months early.

A fee in the region of £300,000 was said to have been on the table but it looks as though the Scotland international is worth considerably more to the Tynecastle outfit.

Former boss Craig Levein is still well connected at the club and has claimed that it will take double what the Gers offered to get an early deal completed, as reported by Football Scotland:

“It is like anything. It is like buying a house, you make up your mind on what you want to pay.

“I have heard [Hearts’ asking price] is more than double the £300,000 offer that they were reportedly holding out for.
“He is under contract. They are quite within their right.
“If they don’t want to let him go for the money that Rangers are offering then John will just have to suck it up and play as well as he can until the end of the season. It is as simple as that.”
I don’t think Ross Wilson’s first offer would be his last one but, if we can’t find any other takers, throwing in a six-month fully paid loan for Jack Simpson might be worth a punt. He needs games to get himself in the shop window and we would be paying his wages for him to sit in the stands anyway – you never know.
I’d like to see Souttar in early but not for £600,000, maybe if we needed to get extra bodies in urgently but we don’t – it’ll be interesting to see if Hearts start looking for a few extra bob towards the end of the window and pick the phone up to see if it’s still on the table though, the ball being very much in our court.
