Rangers make “substantial offer”, possible Jan arrival

|

This week has shown that Rangers need to strengthen, or at least fill a couple of holes in the starting XI.

The one area that seems to be well served is the middle of defence with Connor Goldson and Calvin Bassey continuing to look like a solid partnership with Filip Helander and Leon Balogun both set to return to action which makes todays transfer news a bit of a surprise.

The 4th Official was one of the first outlets to report on our contract offer for John Souttar and they now claim that we have made a bid to get the Hearts centre-half in early:

”According to multiple sources I have spoken with, Rangers have made a substantial offer to land John Souttar from Hearts in this window.

“This offer is somewhere in the range of £200k-£250k.”

Souttar didn’t show any sign of being under pressure against St Johnstone despite his own support booing him, weirdly, the Hearts fans might be doing us a favour, getting him used to an increased level of scrutiny until he heads along the M8.

The fee that The 4th Official claims we have offered would be about as high as I’d want us to go, all things considered. He’s a good player and will serve us well in the future, I’m just not sure it’s a necessity.

If we can get the deal done now then fine, however, I hope Wilson isn’t spending all his time trying to get Souttar immediately, there are much more pressing areas of concern.

We need a fast right winger asap

  • BillyKay says:

We need a commanding centre half. Goldson has been wanting away since the season started, and his last couple of games have shown his mind is elsewhere.in fact, questions can be asked of all the defence at corners this season.

An attacking midfielder to take the place of Scott Arfield, and to be honest, we’ll be lucky to hang onto Aribo for next season.

Roofe has bags of talent ,but is injury prone, and is a bit of a sick note. Should we be considering getting him off the books, and splashing the cash on someone with healthier legs?

    • Gavin Kelly says:

The thing with Roofe is that he’s probably our best striker but isn’t first choice because of his reliability, you couldn’t build your team around him but, as we saw last season, he is a valuable member of the squad. Tough one to call.

    • Stewart Masson says:

Goldson was our best player against Aberdeen and has been since Van Bronkhurst arrived. You will know better than me if he definitely wants away,

      • Gavin Kelly says:

I genuinely think he is waiting to see if we win the league and get into the Champions League, if we do, he’ll stay. That’s my opinion anyway!
