Rangers still have time to add quality to their squad ahead of our first season in the Champions League, most fans hoping for extra goals either in midfield or attack.

A creative or goalscoring midfielder has been mentioned with a few names being reported, Evander and Ross Barkley are the most eye-catching, however, we could be setting ourselves up for disappointment.

Ianis Hagi has the skill set that we are looking for; capable of scoring goals, hard-working and a good passer of the ball off either foot and it may be that Giovanni van Bronckhorst plays him centrally when he returns alongside Tom Lawrence and Malik Tillman, who have done well recently.

The Romanian playmaker is getting ever closer to a return and has already been seen with his boots on and  ball at his feet with his father, Gheorghe, giving an update on his progress as reported by The Daily Record:

“Ianis is working very hard to come back and he is very happy his team are doing well. Rangers are back in the Champions League, where they belong. We hope that when the time is right, which will hopefully be soon, Ianis will be back on the pitch when Rangers say he is ready. He is definitely on the right track though.”

Having Tillman and Lawrence in the squad will allow Hagi a bit more time to recover rather than being expected to hit the ground running, he would also have had to compete with Alex Lowry but for the youngster’s own injury problems.

It’s great to hear that he is progressing without any setbacks because he will be coming up to a crucial part of his rehabilitation soon as he ramps up his sport-specific drills and gets welcomed back into full training – with Kemar Roofe also set to return, the manager will be rubbing his hands at how strong his squad will be, even without adding any new faces.
