This is what happens when a manager makes too many over the top statements to the media, sometimes less is more.

Rangers have had a goalkeeping problem for the last two seasons, in fact, Michael Beale has worked at two other clubs since we should have invested in a new on and we are still no better off.

Saying that we have three excellent keepers is fine, they are, however, Allan McGregor isn’t the player he used to be and we know that Jon McLaughlin will never be able to get to that level either – after all, he’s not exactly a spring chicken at 35 himself.

But for injury we might have seen Robby McCrorie recently, however, we will have to wait until he is fit to see if Beale keeps his word.

What he should do though is break a cardinal sin for a manager and go against it.

McGregor’s contract expires at the end of this season, McLaughlin’s in 2024, neither are long term options but – as already highlighted by Vital Rangers – there is one available who is.

Nikita Haikin still doesn’t have a new club after leaving Bodo/Glimt and could join now, for free. He’s 27 years old and at his peak. A modern shot stopper who is quick off his line. He also has British citizenship.

Every Rangers fan can see it, we need a new goalkeeper if McCrorie isn’t the answer and Haikin is a mulligan for those that play golf, in other words, he’s a free hit. A player with European experience.

As one podder on This is Ibrox pointed out, he was also in the Chelsea academy at the same time as our manager was starting out on his coaching career – maybe a reunion wouldn’t be such a bad thing after all, even if Beale would maybe have to swallow his pride to get the deal done.
